Recently Jamaica Works LLC had the opportunity to assist with providing a vast amount of school supplies to the students and faculty at Rock Hall Primary School in Portland, Jamaica. The donations left the students smiling from ear to ear contemplating how they were going to put all the supplies to use.
Rock Hall Primary School is referred to as a remote school situated in the farming community of Rock Hall in the Portland Western Constituency. They presently have 78 students enrolled, 40 boys and 38 girls between the ages of 5 1/2 years to 12 1/2 years.
In previous years they have entered a number of athletics competitions and have had students placed in high schools based on how well they perform in Sports. They have seen improvement in the number of students who are proficient in literacy and numeracy and at the end of July 2023 with a Proficiency rate of 80% in Language and 78% in Mathematics for the grade 6 cohort.
Presently they are experiencing some challenges in Literacy with their grades 5 and 6 cohort. This is in part due to challenges when returning into the physical classroom having been out for an extended period during the pandemic. The school Principal, Ms. Ponceta Thompson kindly stated: “This is one of the many reasons we are so very grateful for the donations received from Jamaica Works LLC towards our literacy intervention plan”.
At Jamaica Works LLC, we understand that by actively participating in this initiative, we can play a pivotal role in shaping the future of these students while fostering a sense of community. We hope that our support will allow students to access quality education and resources, empowering them to reach their full potential.
Additionally, supporting each other through educational donations is crucial. By donating educational resources, such as books, computers, or even time as a volunteer, can help improve educational opportunities for everyone in the community. This not only benefits individuals but also contributes to the overall growth and development of the community as a whole.
